Understanding the Identity Management Problem
Identity management is a time consuming, error prone process that is required for user access to information systems, networks, and operating systems in various business environments. For example, when a new employee is hired or an existing employee loses a password, an IT administrator can spend hours creating passwords across multiple applications and operating systems to ensure the employee has access appropriate to their role and the security of the system.
The simplest clerical error or oversight can expose the firm to significant financial risk. In addition, management and administration of computer identities can consume large and costly amounts of IT resources better devoted to higher value-add activities.
